Hotels permitted to open in Wales but restrictions remain in place

On the 10th July 2020 new regulations in relation to the Hotel room cleaningCoronavirus restrictions came into force in Wales. The new regulations now permit hotels to reopen to guests however, some restrictions still remain in place, provided that:

1. Food is either provided as room service (by hotel staff or a food delivery service) or guests may consume food and drink outside providing social distancing is maintained 

2. Suitable social distancing and effective cleaning protocols as well as other coronavirus control measures are in place throughout the hotel. You can read further information on our Coronavirus pages.

3. Suitable guest records must to be retained for 21 days to enable contact to be traced in the event of an infected individual being subsequently identified. These records should include the names of customers or visitors, or if it is a group of people, the name of one member of the group – the ‘lead member’. A contact telephone number for each customer or visitor, or for the lead member of a group of people. The date of the visit and arrival and departure times.**

4. You should keep a record of the staff members working at the premises. These records should include the names of staff who work at the premises, a contact telephone number for each member of staff and the dates and times that staff were at work.**

Communal restaurants and bars indoors must remain closed unless food and drink is provided for consumption outdoors Other communal areas such as indoor gymnasiums, swimming pools, libraries, seating areas etc.  must also remain closed for the time being. A checklist was recently published by the Welsh Government to help you in considering all appropriate measures in relation to minimising the risk from Coronavirus. Welsh Government have also recently updated their advice relating to reasonable measures to minimise the risk of exposure to coronavirus in workplaces and premises open to the public which you may wish to familiarise yourself with.  You must ensure that appropriate control measures and cleaning protocols are maintained to minimise the transmission of Coronavirus. You are advised to examine the new regulations in detail in order to familiarise yourself with the current legal requirements.
