ACG Award presentation to SRS 2018The UK Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) revealed earlier this month that SRS had scooped its Departmental Award for Excellence in recognition of work carried out during 2017.

Cllr Michael Michael, Chair of the Shared Regulatory Services Joint Committee said : “In addition to the day-to-day trading standards enforcement across the region, the last year has seen SRS playing a central role in the successful staging of a number of major events in Wales’ capital.

“This has included concerts by Robbie Williams, Justin Bieber and Coldplay, as well as events like the British Grand Prix Speedway, World Championship Boxing, WWE Wrestling, Disney on Ice, and the UEFA Champions League finals.

“The Champions League event in particular was a huge undertaking for the Service, and it is a credit to the dedication and professionalism of our colleagues in trading standards that such positive feedback has been received from the event organisers and brand holders.”

In reaching its decision to award SRS, the ACG noted that “All of these events posed massive intellectual property infringements issues which the team dealt with.”

Alison Statham, Director General of ACG, said: “The growing value and breadth of products being counterfeited, the ACG Award presentation 2018lenient sentences and high returns on investment have become strong incentives for criminal gangs to become more and more involved in counterfeiting. Despite this, however, enforcement bodies across the UK are constantly demonstrating some of the very best enforcement work in tackling counterfeits in the world.

“ACG are particularly proud to work alongside Bridgend, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Shared Regulatory Services and to present them with the Departmental Award for Anti-Counterfeiting.  In particular we would like to recognise their efforts at numerous major events, preventing the sale of dangerous and unsafe fake goods from being sold to consumers.”

SRS was presented with the award by Ms Statham on Tuesday June 19 at Barry’s Civic Offices.
