Animal Movements and Records

The movement of certain species of farm animals requires licenses to accompany their movement.

PigThe movement of livestock in Wales must adhere to the conditions of the appropriate General Licence. All movements of cattle, deer, sheep, goats and pigs are controlled by a general licence issued by the Welsh Government.

  • All Sheep and goat movements must now be reported by the keeper at the destination premises to EID CYMRU within 3 days of the movement taking place. (EID CYMRU, Tŷ Merlin, Parc Merlin, Aberystwyth, SY23 3FF
  • All livestock must be correctly identified before leaving the departure holding.
  • All animal movements, births and deaths must be recorded in the relevant on-farm registers.

General Licence

The movement of livestock in Wales must adhere to the conditions of the appropriate General licence. You can apply for a General Movement Licences on the Welsh Government website:

Animal Movement Licences

In addition to the general licence, movements of livestock must be accompanied by an animal movement licence. For further advice, information and downloadable documents, please visit the EID Cymru website by clicking the link below.

  • Sheep and goats must be transported with an Animal Movement Licence 1 (AML1) Form
  • Cattle must be transported with their passport
  • Deer must be transported with an Animal Movement Licence 24 (AML24) Form
  • Pig movements must be pre-notified on the eAML2 system and transported with the haulier summary
