Avian Influenza update from Vale of Glamorgan Council

The Animal and Plant Health Agency has confirmed the presence of Avian Influenza – commonly known as bird flu -  in deceased swans and geese found at the Knap Lake and Gardens in Barryswan

16.12.25
Although the risk of transmission to humans is low, the disease can spread easily among wild birds.
To help keep yourself and others safe, please do not touch or handle dead or sick birds. If you accidentally come into contact with a bird, its droppings or feathers, please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Please also avoid feeding wild birds in shared public places as it can increase the risk of transmission, and keep pets away from birds – especially near shorelines or areas with high bird activity.
Sightings of dead birds can be reported to DEFRA / APHA online or via telephone on 03459 33 55 77.
