Highfield Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering (RQF)

By law, food business operators must ensure that food handlers receive the appropriate supervision and training in food hygiene.

The objective of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, or to support a current Barristaposition within a low-risk role, where there is an element of food handling. This could include bar workers, waiting staff, health care workers, kitchen porters and stock/store room staff.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

This qualification involves a half-day classroom-based or online training course.

What qualifications do I need to take this qualification? 

There are no subject specific pre-requisites and the qualification is suitable for learners aged 14+. It is recommended that learners undertaking the qualification have a minimum of Level 1 in English and maths or equivalent. If you are unsure if this course is suitable for you, please contact us to discuss the course requirements before booking your place.We are currently trialling Level 1 courses in Bengali and English and dates for these courses are below. 

How is the qualification assessed?

This qualification is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the learner must answer at least 10 out of 15 questions correctly. The examination will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete.

What next?

Individuals achieving this qualification may wish to progress on to other food safety and allergens related qualifications, such as Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Allergen Awareness in Catering (RQF), Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (RQF). Where can this course be taken?

We deliver this course in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, as well as delivering the course online. To take the assessment for the Qualification online, you will need a laptop / computer / tablet or similar with a webcam and microphone, as well as a smart phone. What is the cost?

The cost of this training course is £45 per person. If you wish to undertake this qualification online, there is an additional cost of £30 + VAT (£36) for the e-assessment. The total cost for completing this qualification online is therefore £75 + VAT.
